Where to stay in St. Louis for sports: Union Station

Updated October 15, 2026 · Ranked by Axel from research, its own hotel reviews and recent rates · How we rank

Union Station & Downtown West leads for sports trips, with Energizer Park nearby and Enterprise Center farther east. Downtown & Gateway Arch is a close second and the more focused choice for baseball at Busch Stadium. Pick around your tickets: the leading areas serve different venues, and event nights change the street atmosphere.

The old rail terminal is now an attraction-led base: the aquarium, St. Louis Wheel and other family amusements sit around its train-shed setting. Market Street also puts you close to Energizer Park for soccer, with Enterprise Center and Stifel Theatre farther east; City Museum is a separate walk northeast.

Stay here for the Arch, riverfront walks, baseball and conventions rather than a neighborhood that stays busy everywhere. Broadway and Fourth Street put the Gateway Arch grounds, renovated Old Courthouse and America's Center within a downtown wander; Ballpark Village supplies the obvious game-night gathering place.

North Grand Boulevard and Washington Avenue are for theater, jazz and gallery-going: the Fabulous Fox, Powell Hall, Jazz St. Louis, the Pulitzer and Contemporary Art Museum cluster here. Powell Hall reopened in September 2025 after its expansion, restoring a major reason to stay within walking distance of performances.

Euclid Avenue and Maryland Plaza give you the city's most convincing all-round visitor neighborhood: cafés, restaurants, independent shops and handsome residential streets beside Forest Park. The Cathedral Basilica is nearby on Lindell Boulevard, and the medical campus brings everyday activity rather than a purely tourist crowd.

Think shopping-and-driving convenience, not a city-neighborhood experience. Saint Louis Galleria and The Boulevard provide the main browsing and restaurant destinations, with more retail along Brentwood Boulevard and Eager Road. The Boulevard has a pleasant pedestrian pocket, but highway ramps, wide roads and parking lots interrupt the wider area.

Richmond Heights and Brentwood I-64 stations serve the Blue Line; walking routes involve major-road crossings. STL needs a Red Line connection plus current airport transfers; BLV needs a Red Line connection and shuttle. Driving is simpler for scattered errands. Checked October 15, 2026.
    After dark
Expect dinner pockets rather than a nightlife district; quieter evenings do not necessarily mean quiet rooms beside highways.

Clayton is a separate, polished business district west of the city, with office towers, good restaurants and residential streets around Forsyth Boulevard, Maryland Avenue and Central Avenue. Shaw Park gives it breathing room, while its compact downtown makes dinner on foot straightforward. Stay here for Clayton meetings, a quieter couple's weekend or a more restrained evening scene.
