Stay here for the Arch, riverfront walks, baseball and conventions rather than a neighborhood that stays busy everywhere. Broadway and Fourth Street put the Gateway Arch grounds, renovated Old Courthouse and America's Center within a downtown wander; Ballpark Village supplies the obvious game-night gathering place.

The catch is the stop-start street life. Recent residents describe blocks near the Arch emptying after visitors leave, while others report comfortably living and walking downtown. Choose it for a short sightseeing or stadium trip; skip it if you want a reliably animated dinner-and-drinks stroll every evening.
