Downtown & Gateway Arch
riverfront landmark · baseball crowds · convention district · grand civic buildings
7.9/10
America's Center, several rail stops and strong hotel choice make the clearest convention base.

Stay here for the Arch, riverfront walks, baseball and conventions rather than a neighborhood that stays busy everywhere. Broadway and Fourth Street put the Gateway Arch grounds, renovated Old Courthouse and America's Center within a downtown wander; Ballpark Village supplies the obvious game-night gathering place.
- Best for
- first-time visitorsbusiness trips and conventionssports fanstravelers without a car
- Skip it if
- You want lively sidewalks every evening; You prefer a residential neighborhood feel
- Getting around
- Walk to Convention Center, 8th & Pine or Laclede's Landing for Red/Blue Line trains; the Arch and ballpark are walkable. As of October 15, 2026, STL requires a North Hanley train change and a Terminal 1 shuttle; Terminal 2 rail also closes November 2. BLV still needs a shuttle to Shiloh-Scott.
- After dark
- Ballpark Village draws evening crowds, but residents report notably empty blocks near the Arch after sightseeing hours.
