Axel's take: 8.4/10

A dependable Ohio State base, strongest on cleanliness, comfort and easy parking. a practical 3-star chain hotel near Ohio State, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Hilton Garden Inn is a strong pick for Ohio State visits, hospital appointments and short business stays. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff; Booking.com guests echo those strengths, while Tripadvisor feedback also highlights updated rooms. Free parking, in-room microwaves and refrigerators, an indoor pool and a gym make it a useful, well-rounded base rather than somewhere you choose for atmosphere.

The main trade-offs are breakfast and location: breakfast costs extra unless included in your booking, and being near the university does not mean being steps from every campus destination. We'd plan on driving or using rideshares. A few guests flag mattress wear or occasional noise, but these do not outweigh the broadly positive picture. Skip it if you want downtown nightlife outside the door or breakfast included as standard.

• Best for: Ohio State visitors with a car; hospital visits; short business stays

• Watch out for: Breakfast usually costs extra; Not directly on campus; Occasional mattress and noise complaints

• Location: Convenient for university-area visits; downtown and individual campus destinations generally require transport.

• Rooms: Comfortable, practical rooms with microwaves and refrigerators; isolated reports of worn mattresses.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and recent Expedia feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive frequent praise, though individual service experiences vary.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, fitness center, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and complimentary self-parking.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast generally costs extra, pets incur a nonrefundable fee, and no airport shuttle is offered.
