Axel's take

a modern, upscale Marriott hotel by the Arena District and Short North

8.4/10

A strong downtown base with helpful staff, rooftop dining and a few practical compromises.

This is a modern, upscale Marriott hotel, not a basic two-star. We'd pick it for arena events, convention trips and weekends exploring the Short North: North Market, restaurants and entertainment are within easy walking distance. Recent Tripadvisor and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms, while Booking.com's ratings reinforce the strong cleanliness and comfort picture. Astra, the eighth-floor rooftop restaurant and bar, adds a reason to spend an evening in.

The minimalist design has drawbacks: guests flag sliding glass bathroom doors for limited privacy and noisy operation. Breakfast and on-site valet parking cost extra. Nearby Merchant Building construction at North Market remains a practical caveat, with opening reported for spring 2027; ask about room exposure before booking. We'd skip it if bathroom privacy, quiet daytime downtime or included extras are priorities.

Best for

arena and concert weekends
convention travelers
walkable Short North breaks

Watch out for

sliding bathroom doors limit privacy
breakfast and valet parking cost extra
nearby Merchant Building construction

Location: Walkable to North Market, Nationwide Arena, the convention center and Short North dining.
Rooms: Modern and generally comfortable; sliding glass bathroom doors draw privacy and noise complaints.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and booking-site ratings.
Service: Recent guests repeatedly praise welcoming, helpful front-desk and valet staff.
Amenities: Astra rooftop dining, a sports bar and a 24-hour fitness center suit an urban stay.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast, valet parking and pets carry extra charges; nearby Merchant Building work continues.
