Stay for the CCIB or a quieter coastal rhythm, not central sightseeing.
Diagonal Mar is Barcelona at its most spacious and modern: residential towers, a large shopping center, landscaped parkland and the seafront replace the old city's lanes. The CCIB and Fòrum give it a clear purpose for convention visits, while the natural-sciences museum and coastal open space make a slower family itinerary workable.
For a typical first or second visit, though, we would stay farther west. Central sightseeing becomes a metro outing, and the district offers less spontaneous street-to-street discovery. Allow roughly half an hour or more once station walks are included. It can feel subdued between events, but Fòrum festivals are an important exception to the quiet proposition.
