Hotels in BarcelonaAn adults-only, LGBTQ-focused 4-star hotel in central Eixample
8.0/10
A strong pick for Barcelona’s gay scene, less convincing for a quiet escape.
Axel Hotel Barcelona is an adults-only, LGBTQ-focused 4-star whose strongest assets are its Gayxample location and sociable atmosphere. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want restaurants, gay bars and central sights within easy reach, with somewhere welcoming to return to. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff and clean rooms. The rooftop bar and small pool give it more social appeal than a conventional city hotel; the gym and spa add useful extras.
The trade-off is that the experience is stronger on atmosphere than consistently polished four-star comfort. Rooms can feel compact, some guests flag maintenance shortcomings, and street or event noise can interrupt sleep. Spa access also needs checking against your booking terms rather than assuming it is unlimited. We’d choose it for a sociable city break, but skip it for spacious rooms or reliably quiet nights.
