Shibuya puts the crossing, fashion stores, music and late dinners at your door. Walk north along Cat Street toward Harajuku for smaller shops, then continue toward Omotesando or the wooded approaches to Meiji Jingu. The appeal is having several distinct versions of western Tokyo connected by enjoyable walks, rather than making every outing a train journey.
- Best for
- nightlifeshoppingLGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if
- You want calm immediately outside; Most outings are in eastern Tokyo
- Getting around
- Yamanote serves Shibuya and Harajuku; Ginza, Hanzomon, Fukutoshin and Chiyoda subways serve different parts. Harajuku is walkable from Shibuya; NRT has direct Narita Express service at Shibuya, while HND usually requires a change at Shinagawa.
- After dark
- Shibuya's restaurant and entertainment streets remain lively; Harajuku is more oriented toward daytime shopping than late-night bar-hopping.
