Asakusa makes the strongest case for sleeping somewhere with a recognizable character of its own. Sensoji, Nakamise and the Sumida River give early mornings and evening walks a purpose before you board a train. There are traditional food shops and quieter backstreets beyond the busiest temple approaches, though Nakamise itself is thoroughly commercial and often crowded.
- Best for
- travelers on a budgeta quiet staymuseums and culture
- Skip it if
- Most nights will finish in Shinjuku or Shibuya; You want major JR services at your doorstep
- Getting around
- Ginza and Asakusa subways plus Tobu services; Sensoji and the river are walkable. Selected Asakusa Line through-trains reach HND and NRT directly; Tsukuba Express uses a separate Asakusa station.
- After dark
- Temple streets become noticeably calmer after shops close, while Hoppy Street and scattered izakaya retain an evening scene.
