Axel's take: 8.8/10
A strong Tokyo base for practical comforts, in-room laundry and easy train connections. a practical 3-star business hotel with in-room laundry near Sengakuji, scored for what it is.
Tokyu Stay Takanawa is a practical 3-star business hotel that delivers especially well for travelers packing light. Every room has a washer-dryer and microwave, while recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness and convenient transport. Sengakuji is about a minute away and Takanawa Gateway roughly five minutes on foot: this is a strong base for airport connections and exploring Tokyo by train, rather than a hotel you book for atmosphere.
The main catch is housekeeping. Towels and rubbish collection are available on request, but full cleaning is weekly for stays of seven nights or longer; additional cleaning costs extra. Standard doubles are 18 square meters, so two people with bulky luggage should consider a larger category. We'd skip it if daily servicing, sprawling rooms or nightlife outside the door matter more than useful room equipment.
-
Best for: travelers packing light; business and longer stays; rail-based sightseeing and Haneda connections
-
Watch out for: limited housekeeping; compact standard doubles; quieter neighborhood rather than nightlife hub
-
Location: Near Sengakuji and Takanawa Gateway stations—not directly beside Shinagawa Station.
-
Rooms: Doubles start at 18 square meters; every room has laundry and a microwave, but only Residential rooms have kitchenettes.
-
Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings; limited servicing is the recurring caveat, rather than widespread cleanliness complaints.
-
Service: Recent guests consistently praise helpful reception staff and efficient check-in.
-
Amenities: Useful in-room equipment, free Wi-Fi, lobby coffee and a cafe serving Japanese-Western buffet breakfast.
-
Fees and surprises: Additional full cleaning costs extra; breakfast depends on the booking plan, and there is no hotel parking.
