#7 of 7 hotels in Governor's Square & Apalachee Parkway by Axel's take. Governor's Square & Apalachee Parkway is #3 of 5 places to stay in Tallahassee. The best hotels in Governor's Square & Apalachee Parkway, ranked · Where to stay in Tallahassee

Axel's take: 6.8/10

Friendly staff and useful freebies, but room upkeep is too uneven for an easy recommendation. A budget, motel-style hotel on Apalachee Parkway, scored for what it is.

This is a budget, motel-style Best Western with exterior-entry rooms, better suited to a driving stopover than a walkable downtown stay. We'd consider it for a short visit: free parking, hot breakfast and an outdoor pool cover the basics, and Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff. Restaurants and shopping are nearby, with FSU and FAMU a short drive away.

The catch is inconsistent room quality. Best Western advertises renovated rooms, but 2026 feedback still describes worn furnishings, musty smells, uneven cleaning and some uncomfortable mattresses alongside plenty of clean, comfortable stays. The improvements haven't made it reliably fresh throughout. There's no elevator, and smoking rooms remain available, so request your room type carefully. We'd skip it if dependable housekeeping or walking to downtown attractions matters most.

Best for: Budget-minded travelers with a car; One-night stopovers; Short campus visits
Watch out for: Uneven housekeeping and room condition; Smoking rooms still available; No elevator
Location: Near restaurants and shopping on Apalachee Parkway; plan to drive downtown and to campus.
Rooms: Exterior-entry rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges; advertised renovations haven't eliminated wear or mattress complaints.
Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recent complaints about odors, towels and bathroom cleaning recur.
Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are the most consistent strength across recent reviews.
Amenities: Free hot breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking, plus an outdoor pool and guest laundry.
Fees and surprises: Pet-friendly rooms carry a surcharge; an incidental card hold applies and release can take several business days.
