#4 of 9 hotels in Centro & Quinta Avenida by Axel's take. Centro & Quinta Avenida is #1 of 7 places to stay in Playa del Carmen. The best hotels in Centro & Quinta Avenida, ranked · Where to stay in Playa del Carmen

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong downtown base with a relaxing pool, but room choice matters. a Mexican-styled 4-star city hotel with a courtyard pool, scored for what it is.

HM Playa del Carmen is a Mexican-styled 4-star city hotel, not a beachfront resort, and we'd pick it for exploring Playa on foot. Fifth Avenue is roughly five minutes away, with the beach a little farther. The leafy courtyard pool gives it more character than a standard downtown hotel. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly agree on the essentials: clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff and a breakfast that earns repeated praise.

The main trade-off is room placement. Some ground-floor rooms lack daylight, and guests occasionally report noise around the pool bar or from other rooms; light sleepers should request a quieter location. Breakfast isn't included in every booking. It's a strong fit for couples and independent travelers who want restaurants, excursions and pool time, but we'd skip it if direct beach access is the priority.

  • Best for: couples exploring Playa on foot; independent travelers taking excursions; travelers wanting a pool without a large resort

  • Watch out for: limited daylight in some ground-floor rooms; occasional pool-bar and room-to-room noise; not beachfront

  • Location: Central and walkable: roughly five minutes to Fifth Avenue and around ten to the beach.

  • Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; daylight and noise exposure vary by room.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Mostly friendly and helpful, with occasional less-warm encounters rather than a dominant pattern.

  • Amenities: Courtyard pool, pool bar, gym and free secure parking; confirm step-free access because lift listings conflict.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; airport transfers and laundry carry extra charges.
