Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong downtown base with rooftop pools, but quiet nights aren't guaranteed. a mid-range city hotel near Fifth Avenue, not a beachfront resort, scored for what it is.

Fiesta Inn Playa del Carmen is a mid-range city hotel, and we'd pick it for exploring rather than a resort-style escape. Fifth Avenue is a block away, with restaurants nearby and the beach a short walk beyond. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Two rooftop pools and a gym give it more appeal than a basic overnight stop; it's a strong choice for travelers spending their days out.

The main trade-off is noise: recent guests describe nearby bars playing music well into the night, though others find their rooms quiet. Request a room away from entertainment venues rather than assuming the whole hotel is insulated. A recent Tripadvisor guest also flags limited privacy from the glass bathroom partitions. Breakfast and parking can cost extra, depending on your booking. We'd skip it for guaranteed silence or direct beach access.

• Best for: travelers planning tours and day trips; couples exploring Playa on foot; downtown stays with pool time

• Watch out for: late-night music from nearby bars; glass bathroom partitions can limit privacy; breakfast and parking may cost extra

• Location: One block from Fifth Avenue; walkable to restaurants and the beach, but not beachfront.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and practical rooms; noise exposure varies, and bathroom privacy deserves consideration.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reviews.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff receive frequent praise across sites.

• Amenities: Two rooftop pools, gym, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service.

• Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast and parking are included in your specific booking.
