Axel's take: 8.3/10

A good-value base with spacious rooms, but beach days require a walk. a simple independent 3-star in inland Playa del Carmen, scored for what it is.

Hotel Angelo’s is a simple independent 3-star in inland Playa del Carmen, best treated as a comfortable base for exploring rather than a beach hotel. We'd pick it for the spacious rooms, good value and consistently strong cleanliness feedback. Recent Expedia guests praise comfortable beds and helpful staff, while Booking.com reviews reproduced by Planet of Hotels broadly agree. Included breakfast and a rooftop pool add useful extras for this class.

The main compromise is location: expect roughly 20–25 minutes on foot to Fifth Avenue or the beach through ordinary urban surroundings. Breakfast choices can be repetitive, and several recent guests flag pool upkeep or weak shower pressure. Expedia also lists a mandatory nightly cleaning fee. We'd skip it for a beach-focused holiday or if polished facilities matter more than room space and value.

• Best for: budget-conscious families; travelers with a rental car; day-trip and excursion travelers

• Watch out for: 20–25-minute walk to tourist areas; pool upkeep and shower-pressure complaints; mandatory nightly cleaning fee

• Location: In Ejidal, inland from the beach and Fifth Avenue; practical rather than scenic.

• Rooms: Spacious, air-conditioned rooms; comfortable beds draw praise, though some guests report weak showers.

• Cleanliness: Room cleanliness is a consistent strength across sites; pool-area feedback is less reliable.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff earn repeated praise, with occasional less-friendly reception reports.

• Amenities: Breakfast, rooftop swimming pool and free parking; breakfast variety and pool maintenance receive mixed feedback.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly cleaning fee; airport and beach transfers cost extra.
