Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable Munich base with excellent housekeeping, friendly staff and compact rooms. a small, family-run 3-star in Munich’s university quarter, scored for what it is.

Hotel Hauser is a small, family-run 3-star in Munich’s university quarter, and a strong pick for travelers who value cleanliness and location over stylish interiors. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, well-kept rooms and breakfast buffet, which is included. Restaurants, museums, the English Garden and Universität U-Bahn are all convenient, making this a practical base for exploring without a car.

The main compromise is space: even the hotel acknowledges that most rooms are small, and guests also flag compact bathrooms. Furnishings lean traditional rather than contemporary, but air conditioning and soundproof windows help make the lively neighborhood comfortable. Parking is paid, limited and restricted by vehicle size. We’d skip it if generous rooms or sleek design matter most; otherwise, it delivers very well for its class.

• Best for: museum-focused city breaks; university visitors; solo travelers who prioritize cleanliness

• Watch out for: small rooms and bathrooms; traditional rather than modern interiors; limited parking with strict vehicle-size restrictions

• Location: Lively university quarter with restaurants, museums and Universität U-Bahn nearby.

• Rooms: Mostly compact, with air conditioning, soundproof windows and an elevator serving all floors.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor reviews.

• Service: Guests repeatedly praise welcoming, helpful staff; reception operates from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

• Amenities: Breakfast and Wi-Fi included; sauna, steam bath and a modest two-machine exercise area.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and has strict size limits; sauna carries a charge and requires advance notice.
