Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong Old Town grand hotel, but room choice matters. A historic five-star grand hotel in Munich’s Old Town, scored for what it is.

Bayerischer Hof is a historic five-star grand hotel that earns its place through location, character and unusually extensive facilities. It's a strong pick for travelers who want Old Town sightseeing alongside rooftop drinks, substantial dining choices and a proper spa. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable accommodation and cleanliness. The Blue Spa’s pool, retractable glass roof and city views are genuine draws.

The reservation is consistency at luxury expectations. Rooms vary in style and condition, with dated interiors recurring in reviews; some guests also describe slow arrivals or uneven attention when busy. The lobby was redesigned in 2026, but that doesn't mean every bedroom has been refreshed. Breakfast and parking add to the bill unless included. We'd choose it for traditional Munich atmosphere and facilities, but skip it if uniformly contemporary rooms and seamless service are non-negotiable.

• Best for: Old Town sightseeing and shopping; Travelers who enjoy traditional grand hotels; City breaks with spa time

• Watch out for: Variable room style and condition; Occasional service delays; Breakfast and parking supplements

• Location: Excellent Old Town base, with central sights, shopping and public transport within walking distance.

• Rooms: Comfort generally scores well, but decor and condition vary; confirm the specific room design before booking.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across booking sites, despite occasional bathroom-maintenance complaints.

• Service: Helpful staff and concierge earn frequent praise; arrival efficiency and attention are less consistent.

• Amenities: Extensive restaurants and bars, gym and rooftop Blue Spa; spa admission is included for overnight guests.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking costs extra. The reported entrance renovation dates to 2025, with the redesigned lobby unveiled in 2026.
