Axel's take on Midtown & Blackstone: #3 of 7 in Omaha, 6.0/10
Choose Blackstone for dinner and drinks, Midtown Crossing for park-centered evenings. Midtown & Blackstone earns third for character and dinner-and-drinks appeal, but weaker hotel scores, higher rates and journeys downtown limit its all-round case.
Blackstone's draw is an evening you can assemble on foot: dinner, cocktails, craft beer and late food along Farnam around 36th–40th streets. Midtown Crossing offers a different version of the stay, organized around Turner Park, outdoor seating and seasonal events rather than one continuous bar strip. Pick the address that matches the evening you want.
This is our choice for a food-led or couples' weekend, not a substitute for sleeping beside downtown attractions. Streetcar works are disrupting Farnam in October 2026, and service is not expected until 2028. Skip it if quiet nights or straightforward driving matter most.
- Best for: couples, nightlife, food lovers, luxury travelers
- Skip it if: You need quiet beside your accommodation; You want downtown sights immediately outside
- Getting around: Walk locally; ORBT stops at 33rd and 42nd on Dodge connect downtown; OMA is simplest by taxi/rideshare, or use weekday-peak Route 106 with an ORBT transfer.
- After dark: Blackstone is especially active in the evening; Midtown Crossing's atmosphere follows its restaurants and Turner Park programming.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $153 a night · usually 6% under the public rate

Where to look in Midtown & Blackstone
- Farnam Street, 36th–40th. Choose this restaurant-and-bar stretch for a dining-led weekend, with more evening activity than a secluded retreat. Hotels here: Kimpton Cottonwood by IHG.
- Turner Park's west edge. Park-facing restaurants, outdoor seating and seasonal events suit travelers who prefer a green-space-centered evening. Hotels here: Element by Marriott Omaha Midtown Crossing.
- Douglas Street at 44th. Put medical visits first here: a practical UNMC-focused base rather than a doorstep onto Blackstone's main bar stretch. Hotels here: Home2 Suites by Hilton Omaha UN Medical Ctr Area.
How to choose
- Choose Kimpton Cottonwood by IHG if historic design, restaurants and cocktail bars are central to your couples' weekend.
- Choose Element by Marriott Omaha Midtown Crossing if you want spacious kitchen-equipped rooms and breakfast near Turner Park.
- Choose Home2 Suites by Hilton Omaha UN Medical Ctr Area if UNMC visits and a complimentary campus shuttle matter more than nightlife.
What paying more buys
Element is cheaper than most here and provides spacious rooms with kitchens and breakfast. Pricier Kimpton Cottonwood buys historic design, stronger on-site dining and a seasonal outdoor pool—not necessarily a bigger room or a calmer poolside afternoon. The premium makes less sense for self-catering stays or medical visits. Typical rates with Axel here run from $147 a night at Element by Marriott Omaha Midtown Crossing to $223 at Kimpton Cottonwood by IHG (last 30 days).
