#8 of 9 hotels in Council Bluffs Casinos by Axel's take. Council Bluffs Casinos is #4 of 7 places to stay in Omaha. The best hotels in Council Bluffs Casinos, ranked · Where to stay in Omaha

Axel's take: 7.3/10

Good for a casino getaway, less convincing as a four-star hotel. A mid-range riverboat-casino hotel in Council Bluffs, across from Omaha, scored for what it is.

Ameristar is a mid-range casino hotel on the Iowa side of the Missouri River, not a luxury Omaha stay. We'd consider it for a gambling-focused overnight: restaurants, an indoor pool and hot tub make it convenient to settle in without leaving. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff, while Booking.com guests also highlight spacious rooms. Overall ratings suggest a generally good stay rather than an exceptional one.

The trade-offs are aging interiors, casino smoke and uneven service. Recent Tripadvisor guests describe worn bathrooms, tired furnishings and housekeeping delays, although these complaints aren't universal across sites. Breakfast isn't included, and a car is useful for sightseeing beyond the property. The Hollywood Casino replacement project had a September 2026 groundbreaking announced; confirm current construction impacts before booking. We'd skip it for polished four-star service, a reliably smoke-free environment or a walkable downtown Omaha base.

  • Best for: Casino-focused overnight stays; Drivers exploring Omaha and Council Bluffs; Travelers wanting dining and a pool on-site

  • Watch out for: Casino smoke and occasional late-night noise; Dated rooms and uneven housekeeping response; Hollywood Casino replacement construction

  • Location: In Council Bluffs, Iowa—not downtown Omaha; a car is useful beyond the casino complex.

  • Rooms: Often described as spacious and comfortable, but recent guests also report tired furnishings and bathroom wear.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive on Expedia and Booking.com, with some recent Tripadvisor complaints about upkeep.

  • Service: Friendly staff receive frequent praise; delayed housekeeping and inconsistent problem handling also appear.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, hot tub, gym, casino and several dining options; self-parking is free.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; an incidentals hold and phone/front-desk booking fees apply. Confirm construction impacts.
