Axel's take on Messe München & Riem: #9 of 9 in Munich, 4.1/10
Excellent for the Messe; a deliberate compromise for almost everyone else. Solid hotels and reasonable value cannot overcome the weakest sightseeing access and doorstep choice; stay here primarily for the exhibition halls.
Stay here when the exhibition halls are the reason for your trip. Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost put the U2 beside the Messe, while Willy-Brandt-Platz, Riem Arcaden and the nearby residential streets cover everyday needs. Riemer Park adds substantial outdoor space, making the district more than a collection of business buildings.
For a normal first or second Munich visit, we would choose somewhere with more of the city's evening life on the doorstep. The direct U2 is useful, but repeated trips become part of the stay. Check the walk to both your exhibition entrance and station: proximity to one does not automatically mean convenience for the other.
- Best for: business trips and conventions, a quiet stay
- Skip it if: You are visiting mainly for sightseeing; You want bars and historic streets outside
- Getting around: U2 serves Messestadt West/Ost and reaches Hauptbahnhof in about 20 minutes; Riem's S2 station is separate from the Messe stops. MUC requires rail connections or an event-specific airport shuttle; FMM requires a coach to Hauptbahnhof, then U2.
- After dark: Best treated as a quiet evening base rather than a bar-hopping address; exhibition schedules are the main reason to expect a different mood.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $139 a night · usually 7% under the public rate

Where to look in Messe München & Riem
- Willy-Brandt-Platz. Start here for Riem Arcaden and Messestadt West access; the square is undergoing redevelopment, so expect works rather than settled surroundings. Hotels here: Novotel Muenchen Messe, H2 Hotel München Messe, H4 Hotel München Messe.
- Riem S-Bahn station. Choose this rail anchor if you prefer the older Riem side to the exhibition complex; check your onward fairground journey. Hotels here: Hotel Prinzregent München, Holiday Inn - the niu, Fury Aschheim Messe by IHG, Hotel NH München Ost Conference Center, ibis budget München Ost Messe.
- Riemer Park, northern edge. Look toward the park for walking, playgrounds and outdoor downtime after exhibition days, rather than concentrated nightlife.
How to choose
- Choose Hotel Prinzregent München if quiet rooms and warm Bavarian hospitality matter more than being directly beside the exhibition halls.
- Choose Novotel Muenchen Messe if you want the Messe, U-Bahn, shops and dining immediately nearby.
- Choose Holiday Inn - the niu, Fury Aschheim Messe by IHG if you want a substantially cheaper modern business base and can manage with limited in-room extras.
What paying more buys
The niu Fury and ibis budget München Ost Messe offer cheaper basics away from the central sightseeing core. Novotel Muenchen Messe costs more for immediate exhibition, shopping and U-Bahn convenience; Hotel Prinzregent adds traditional character and notably warm service. If you only need a clean overnight base and accept the extra journey, the premium is less useful. Typical rates with Axel here run from $67 a night at ibis budget München Ost Messe to $169 at H4 Hotel München Messe (last 30 days).
