#2 of 7 hotels in Crystal Beach & Henderson Beach by Axel's take. Crystal Beach & Henderson Beach is #1 of 5 places to stay in Destin. The best hotels in Crystal Beach & Henderson Beach, ranked · Where to stay in Destin

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong-value beach base with useful pools, but compact rooms. a no-frills, family-friendly hotel near Henderson Beach State Park, scored for what it is.

Tru by Hilton Destin is a no-frills, family-friendly hotel that delivers well on the basics. It's a strong pick for travelers who want clean rooms and useful extras rather than a beachfront resort. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and breakfast, while Booking.com guests also highlight comfortable beds and location. Free hot breakfast, free parking, a heated indoor pool and an outdoor pool with water features make it particularly practical for families; some rooms have bunk beds.

The main compromise is space: several Tripadvisor guests describe small rooms, with open shelving rather than drawers. Henderson Beach State Park is across the busy highway, not directly outside your room. Breakfast stocking and service draw some uneven feedback, although praise outweighs complaints. We'd skip it for a spacious, full-service stay or direct beach access.

  • Best for: families who value pools and breakfast; value-minded beach travelers; short stays exploring Destin

  • Watch out for: compact rooms and limited storage; busy highway between hotel and beach park; occasionally uneven breakfast stocking

  • Location: Convenient for Henderson Beach State Park, shops and restaurants, but not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Simple, generally comfortable rooms; compact layouts and open storage are recurring compromises.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Expedia reviews, also praised by Booking.com guests.

  • Service: Mostly friendly and helpful, with some less consistent reports on Tripadvisor.

  • Amenities: Free hot breakfast, indoor and outdoor pools, gym, EV charging and some bunk-bed rooms.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is free; pets and EV charging cost extra. Management says summer 2026 water-pressure problems were fixed.
