#9 of 9 hotels in Downtown Destin & HarborWalk by Axel's take. Downtown Destin & HarborWalk is #2 of 5 places to stay in Destin. The best hotels in Downtown Destin & HarborWalk, ranked · Where to stay in Destin

Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical budget base, but room upkeep and nighttime quiet are inconsistent. a no-frills 2-star roadside motel in central Destin, scored for what it is.

Destin Inn and Suites is a no-frills 2-star motel on Highway 98, not a beachfront hotel. It’s a reasonable pick for budget travelers with a car: restaurants are nearby, parking is free, and the outdoor pool adds something beyond a basic overnight stop. Recent Expedia guests frequently praise clean, updated rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; Booking.com feedback also supports the convenient location and value.

The catch is consistency. Alongside those positives, guests on Booking.com and Trip.com describe musty smells, missed cleaning and nighttime noise. Recent reviews also mention virtual check-in, which can frustrate travelers who want someone at the desk. Breakfast is not provided, and beach trips generally mean driving. We’d consider it for a short, inexpensive stay, but skip it if reliable housekeeping, quiet nights or direct beach access are priorities.

  • Best for: budget travelers with a car; short stays near Destin attractions; families wanting a basic outdoor pool

  • Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and musty-room reports; nighttime noise; virtual check-in

  • Location: Central Highway 98 location near restaurants; not beachfront, so plan to drive to the beach.

  • Rooms: Fridges and microwaves are useful; updated-room praise sits alongside complaints about condition and odors.

  • Cleanliness: Many recent guests report clean rooms, but repeated cleaning complaints make consistency a concern.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though virtual check-in and limited immediate assistance frustrate some guests.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and laundry facilities; no breakfast provided.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking is free; guests report paid ice, and check-in may involve a virtual agent.
