Axel's take: 7.6/10

Come for the friendly staff and communal spaces, not polished rooms. a revamped, budget-minded 3-star motel with sociable common spaces, scored for what it is.

SCP, now branded SCP WildFree, is a revamped 3-star motel whose strongest selling points sit outside the bedrooms. We'd consider it a good-value base for travelers with a car: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, games-filled lobby and unusually substantial gym. Light breakfast and parking are included, and dogs are welcome for an extra fee.

The rooms are simpler than the inviting common spaces suggest. Many guests find them clean and comfortable, but housekeeping and maintenance are less consistent than the service; recent reviews describe room changes for cleanliness or air-conditioning problems. Breakfast is modest, and many rooms have exterior entrances. Circle Drive construction has complicated access, while Expedia lists the outdoor pool as seasonally closed from October 7 through June 20. We'd skip it for polished interiors, a walkable downtown stay or dependable year-round swimming.

• Best for: road-trippers with a car; travelers bringing dogs; budget-minded travelers who value a gym

• Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and room maintenance; Circle Drive construction affecting access; seasonal pool closure and modest breakfast

• Location: Off I-25 in southeast Colorado Springs; better suited to driving than exploring on foot.

• Rooms: Simple motel-style accommodation; many exterior-entry rooms, with interior-corridor deluxe options.

• Cleanliness: Plenty of clean-room praise, but enough housekeeping misses to make consistency a concern.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Large gym, yoga space, lobby games, bar and light breakfast; outdoor pool is seasonal.

• Fees and surprises: Parking included; dogs incur a stay fee and cannot be left unattended; no elevator listed.
