#9 of 9 hotels in Downtown by Axel's take. Downtown is #1 of 7 places to stay in Colorado Springs. The best hotels in Downtown, ranked · Where to stay in Colorado Springs

Axel's take: 5.8/10

Friendly staff help, but uneven upkeep makes this a cautious budget choice. a basic 2-star roadside motel south of downtown, scored for what it is.

This is a basic 2-star roadside motel south of downtown, now branded Howard Johnson by Wyndham. We'd consider it for a short, no-frills stop, but it falls short on consistency even for its class. Free parking, Wi-Fi, and in-room microwaves and refrigerators cover the practical basics. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests praise helpful staff, and several describe clean rooms and comfortable beds.

The trade-offs are substantial: other recent guests describe worn rooms, housekeeping lapses, and surroundings they found uncomfortable. Expedia's overall guest rating remains middling despite some encouraging 2026 feedback. A July 2026 guest also reported the advertised outdoor pool closed; don't count on swimming without confirming reopening. Expect a check-in deposit. We'd skip it for a family vacation or if dependable room condition and comfortable evening walks matter more than keeping costs down.

  • Best for: budget travelers with a car; short work trips or overnight stops

  • Watch out for: uneven room condition and cleanliness; surroundings some guests find uncomfortable; pool reported closed in July 2026; reopening unconfirmed

  • Location: Convenient for I-25 and downtown by car; repeated guest concerns about the immediate surroundings.

  • Rooms: Basic rooms with advertised microwaves and refrigerators; comfort and maintenance reports vary.

  • Cleanliness: Recent guests report both clean rooms and housekeeping lapses; consistency is the concern.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring bright spot across Expedia and Tripadvisor.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, parking, and 24-hour reception; confirm pool availability rather than relying on older listings.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a check-in deposit, no elevators, and no pets except service animals.
