If your plans revolve around shopping, concerts and getting around without a car, this is a useful address. The Eaton Centre, Massey Hall and downtown theatres are close, with Line 1 beneath Yonge Street. Church Street's LGBTQ+ venues lie north. Yonge-Dundas Square is now officially Sankofa Square, though the old intersection name remains useful for orientation.
- Best for
- shoppingLGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if
- You want a quiet evening atmosphere; You prefer leafy streets to a commercial crossroads
- Getting around
- Line 1 at College, TMU—formerly Dundas—or Queen, plus the 505 Dundas streetcar; walk to shopping and theatres; YYZ via UP Express to Union then Line 1, and YTZ via its Union shuttle then Line 1.
- After dark
- The square and Yonge Street remain bright and busy with entertainment crowds; this is not our choice for a peaceful evening return.
