A strong restaurant-and-nightlife base, with the main concentration of LGBTQ+ venues farther west in Grand Central.

This is a separate city across the bay, and a very good place to base a holiday. Central Avenue supplies restaurants, independent shops and evening bars; Beach Drive and the waterfront parks offer a different pace. The Dalí Museum and St. Pete Pier give you substantial daytime outings without organizing every hour around a car.
- Best for
- food loversmuseums and culturenightlifeLGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if
- You have daily meetings or events in Tampa; You want a Gulf-front beach outside your door
- Getting around
- Walk downtown; use the Central Avenue Trolley and SunRunner for trips west. PSTA’s 727 Airport Express links TPA directly with downtown every 75 minutes; PIE is simpler by rideshare.
- After dark
- Central Avenue supports bar-hopping and live music, while Beach Drive is more dinner-oriented; choose away from bar frontages for quieter sleep.
