Dearborn makes sense when The Henry Ford, Greenfield Village or Ford-related work drives the itinerary. Michigan Avenue has two distinct downtowns, while the Arab American National Museum, bakeries and restaurants around Warren and Schaefer give food-focused travelers plenty to explore. It's a separate city with its own reasons to stay, not simply overflow lodging for Detroit.
- Best for
- familiestravelers on a budget
- Skip it if
- You won't have a car; Most evenings will be spent in downtown Detroit
- Getting around
- SMART FAST 261 links Michigan Avenue and Dearborn Transit Center with DTW and Downtown Detroit; Amtrak serves the transit center, but most lodging and attractions still require local transport.
- After dark
- West Dearborn has a bar scene and East Dearborn has social coffee shops; quieter lodging streets aren't necessarily walkable to either.
