Axel's take on Greektown & Riverfront: #2 of 6 in Detroit, 6.6/10
Stay for late nights and stadium walks, not guaranteed quiet. Strong access and character put Greektown second, but hotel choice, nearby variety and value trail Downtown, and Monroe Street favors nightlife over quiet.
Greektown puts Monroe Street taverns, Greek bakeries and casino gaming close together, with Ford Field and Comerica Park within walking distance. Toward Jefferson Avenue, the mood changes to big buildings, river views and the RiverWalk. Stay here if you want evening plans without arranging a ride after every stop.
Those two sides aren't interchangeable: Monroe favors late nights, while the waterfront means a longer walk from the stadiums. The streetscape redesign was still nearing completion in September 2026, so check for remaining work before booking. Skip it if quiet sleep or a low-key residential setting matters more than nightlife.
- Best for: nightlife, sports fans
- Skip it if: You are sensitive to weekend noise; You want residential streets
- Getting around: Walk to downtown sights and stadiums; Greektown, Bricktown and Renaissance Center People Mover stations serve different blocks; from DTW, take DAX then walk or transfer, or use a taxi.
- After dark: Monroe Street draws late bar and casino crowds; expect a livelier nighttime setting than a quiet waterfront retreat.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $300 a night
