How Axel works

Where to stay in Antalya: the 6 best neighborhoods, ranked

Updated October 20, 2026 · Ranked by Axel from research, its own hotel reviews and recent rates · How we rank

Stay in Kaleiçi for a first visit, food and nightlife, or a family sightseeing break, provided cobbles and late bars suit your plans. Kalekapısı is the practical budget alternative, with airport rail nearby. Choose Şirinyalı & Fener for clifftop walks and dining, or Konyaaltı for an independent family holiday built around the beach.

Think of Antalya as three different holidays—Old Town sightseeing, residential coastal stays and self-contained beach resorts—with Axel ranking each area by how easily you can explore, what is walkable, hotel quality, value and local character, rather than treating proximity to the sea as the deciding factor.

Best picks by trip

  1. Dogan Hotel by Prana Hotels & Resorts - Special Class, Kaleiçi (Old Town)

    Kaleiçi (Old Town)

Ottoman houses · cobbled lanes · harbour walks · courtyard dining · late bars

    8.2/10

Antalya’s best short-break base, provided you can live with late-night noise.

Kaleiçi leads for character, walkable sights, dining and strong value, though its hotels score below several coastal areas and late bars complicate sleep.

Kaleiçi makes Antalya feel like a city break rather than a resort holiday. Ottoman houses, courtyard restaurants and lanes descending towards the old harbour give you a reason to walk without a plan. Hadrian’s Gate, the Yivli Minaret and Karaalioğlu Park belong to the same daily sightseeing circuit.

The trade-off is sleep and access. Visitors flag bar noise, while cobbled lanes and the descent to the harbour make luggage and pushchairs less straightforward. Mermerli is a compact harbour beach, not a substitute for a long beach holiday. Stay here for history and evenings out; skip it for guaranteed quiet or effortless beach days.

    City Centre (Kalekapısı)

pedestrian shopping · bazaar lanes · everyday city life · tram connections

    7.1/10

Choose practicality, airport rail and shopping over Old Town atmosphere.

Kalekapısı combines strong value, airport rail and central character, but has weaker hotels and fewer nearby dining and sightseeing options than Kaleiçi.

Kalekapısı puts you on the working-city side of Antalya. The Clock Tower, Kazım Özalp’s pedestrian shopping street and the bazaar lanes are the daily landmarks, with Kaleiçi immediately downhill. Choose it for moving easily between sightseeing, everyday meals and shopping rather than spending your days inside a resort.

You give up historic courtyards and a beachfront setting, and street-facing rooms deserve a noise check. Modern AntRay access is the advantage here, not the nostalgic tram: the operator announced its suspension on July 21, 2026, with replacement buses. Don’t choose accommodation on the assumption that older descriptions of that tram still apply.

Şirinyalı and Fener are the urban, clifftop side of Lara: apartment streets, park walks and dinner along Eski Lara Caddesi rather than all-inclusive compounds. TerraCity, on Tekelioğlu Caddesi, gives shoppers a useful landmark. Stay here when a sea-view walk and a proper evening meal matter more than ticking off monuments.

The catch is below your feet: this coast is cliffs, not a continuous sandy beach. Municipal swimming spots such as İnciraltı and Konserve Koyu provide access, but aren’t equivalent to strolling onto sand. Sightseeing requires buses or taxis. Skip it for a tightly packed first visit or a holiday built around easy toddler beach days.

    Konyaaltı Beach

pebble beach · long promenade · mountain backdrop · residential cafés · outdoor exercise

    6.1/10

The best beach-and-city compromise for an independent holiday.

Konyaaltı wins on waterfront character and offers solid hotels, but weaker value and bus-dependent sightseeing keep it below the central and clifftop options.

Konyaaltı is the strongest choice when swimming and ordinary city life should share the holiday. The long, mostly pebbly beach comes with a promenade, cafés and residential streets rather than an uninterrupted wall of resorts. Beach Park adds a livelier waterfront outing, while the neighbourhood supports meals outside your accommodation.

Most beachfront addresses still need a bus or taxi for Kaleiçi, so this is not an Old Town stay with swimming attached. Pebbles may disappoint sandcastle-age children, and waterfront activity does not guarantee quiet rooms. Antalya Museum remains closed to visitors; don’t make that an assumed attraction of staying nearby. Choose Konyaaltı for beach routines and outdoor exercise rather than a history-heavy weekend.

Lara around Güzeloba and Örnekköy offers sandy-beach days without Kundu’s all-inclusive routine. Beach cafés, everyday shops and smaller residential streets make independent stays practical. Choose an address near the public beach entrance: the Lara name alone tells you little about whether you can actually walk onto sand.

Historic Antalya is a bus or taxi trip away, and distances between the beach, restaurants and shops can be awkward. Locals repeatedly flag aircraft noise around Güzeloba, so residential does not automatically mean restful. Stay here for a slower beach holiday with independent meals; skip it if daily sightseeing or reliably silent nights is the priority.

    4.1/10

Kundu is a resort holiday rather than a city-neighbourhood stay. Along Yaşar Sobutay Bulvarı and the beachfront, expect a daily routine revolving around sand, pools, organised activities and meals inside large complexes. It is our strongest fit for families wanting everything arranged and travellers who value resort facilities over spontaneous city wandering.

The compromise begins at the gate: roadside shopping is geared to holidaymakers, and Antalya’s historic streets and independent dining are not on your doorstep. Buses exist, but repeated city trips make this a cumbersome base. Choose it deliberately for staying put; skip it if you want to explore a different part of Antalya every day.

How Axel ranks neighborhoods

Axel ranks each neighborhood as a base for a visitor, not as a place to visit. Five scores out of 10 are blended into the score beside each name. The pages for each kind of trip weight how well a neighborhood fits that trip more heavily.

  • Getting around (20%): How many of the city’s most-visited sights are within easy reach, plus a direct train to the airport.
  • On your doorstep (15%): Places to eat, drink and see within a 10-minute walk, counted from OpenStreetMap.
  • Hotels (20%): Axel’s own reviews of the hotels here, and how many good ones there are to choose from.
  • Value (10%): Hotel quality for the money, from the rates Axel saw in the last 30 days, against the city as a whole.
  • Axel’s verdict (35%): How good a base it is for a visitor, from research into guides, forums, transit and local news.

Questions travelers ask

Is Kaleiçi or Konyaaltı better for a first visit to Antalya?

Kaleiçi is better for a sightseeing-led first visit: Hadrian’s Gate, the harbour, restaurants and evening bars are walkable. Konyaaltı is the alternative when swimming and promenade time should shape the holiday. Its beach is mostly pebbly, and most beachfront addresses still require a bus or taxi for the Old Town. Choose by your daily routine, not just the sea view.

Where should families stay in Antalya?

Kaleiçi narrowly leads for a family sightseeing break, with meals and major sights close together, but cobbles, slopes and late bars need planning. Şirinyalı & Fener follows for parks and stronger hotels, then Konyaaltı for independent beach routines. Kundu suits a different brief: a deliberately self-contained resort holiday, rather than the strongest all-round base for exploring Antalya.

What is the cheapest good area to stay in Antalya?

Kalekapısı has the lowest typical rates among these areas, just below Kaleiçi, but Kaleiçi takes the top budget recommendation for its stronger overall value and walkable sights and dining. Both sit well below the city’s typical rates. Lara is another below-city option if sand matters more than central sightseeing, though distances and aircraft noise deserve careful checks.

Where should I stay without a car, and how do I get there from Antalya Airport?

Kaleiçi is the best overall car-free base, with Kalekapısı next for transport practicality. T1A connects the airport’s Terminal 1/domestic side with İsmetpaşa and Muratpaşa; Terminal 2 requires an interterminal shuttle connection. Coastal areas usually add a bus connection or taxi. Do not confuse modern AntRay with the nostalgic tram, whose suspension was announced in July 2026.

Is Kaleiçi a good base if I want nightlife but also need sleep?

Yes, if you choose the room carefully: Kaleiçi is Antalya’s strongest nightlife base, but visitors report bar and live-music noise in parts of the Old Town. Ask about the room’s position relative to evening venues before booking. If reliably quiet nights matter more than walking home from bars, Şirinyalı & Fener ranks first for a quieter stay, with local noise checks still necessary.

Where should I stay for a business trip or convention in Antalya?

Şirinyalı & Fener is the leading general business choice, with stronger hotels and useful dining streets; Kalekapısı is a close second for airport rail and central convenience. For a convention at ANFAŞ or another venue, check the exact journey before booking. The best general business neighborhood is not automatically the closest event base, and a coastal address does not establish a convenient commute.

Are Lara, Şirinyalı & Fener and Kundu all the same beach area?

No—the Lara name covers very different stays. Şirinyalı & Fener is urban and clifftop, with parks, dining and swimming access rather than continuous sand. Lara around Güzeloba and Örnekköy offers independent stays near the public sandy beach, depending on the address. Kundu is the large-resort strip, best chosen for sand, pools and organised routines rather than daily city exploration.
