#8 of 9 hotels in Downtown & the Capitol by Axel's take. Downtown & the Capitol is #2 of 5 places to stay in Tallahassee. The best hotels in Downtown & the Capitol, ranked · Where to stay in Tallahassee

Axel's take: 6.9/10

A useful downtown address, but renovations and uneven rooms limit the appeal. an aging full-service downtown hotel near the Capitol, scored for what it is.

This full-service downtown high-rise makes most sense for Capitol business and short university visits, rather than a polished four-star getaway. The Capitol is two blocks away, and Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff. Recent guests also report clean, comfortable rooms, though that experience is not consistent enough for an unqualified recommendation.

The main catch is renovation work: guests staying through September 2026 describe construction, dust and, in some cases, slow elevators. Tripadvisor and Booking.com reviews also flag dated bathrooms and maintenance shortcomings; housekeeping gets mixed reports. Parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd consider it when downtown convenience matters most, but skip it for a special occasion or if you want reliably updated rooms and a construction-free stay. Confirm the renovation status before booking.

  • Best for: Capitol and courthouse business; Short downtown stays; University visitors prioritizing downtown

  • Watch out for: Renovations reported through September 2026; Dated bathrooms and uneven maintenance; Parking and breakfast cost extra

  • Location: Two blocks from the Capitol, with downtown restaurants and government offices within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but dated bathrooms and maintenance issues recur.

  • Cleanliness: Recent guests often praise clean rooms, but housekeeping consistency remains a weakness.

  • Service: Friendly front-desk and valet staff are recurring strengths; delays still feature in reviews.

  • Amenities: Hilton lists an outdoor pool, fitness center, free Wi-Fi and Jacob's on the Plaza.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking, valet and breakfast carry charges; confirm construction impacts before arrival.
