#9 of 9 hotels in Östermalm by Axel's take. Östermalm is #4 of 8 places to stay in Stockholm. The best hotels in Östermalm, ranked · Where to stay in Stockholm

Axel's take: 7.2/10

A convenient city base, but renovations currently compromise the four-star package. a central 4-star chain hotel beside Stureplan's nightlife, scored for what it is.

Scandic Anglais is a central 4-star chain hotel opposite Humlegården, strongest as a base for shopping, restaurants and exploring Stockholm. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast and helpful staff; recent guests also like the newly renovated rooms. We'd consider it for a city break spent mostly out, rather than a hotel-focused stay.

The substantial renovation is the catch, with weekday daytime noise and work planned through summer 2027. As of October 2026, Scandic lists the bar closed until October 30, the gym and sauna until November 30, and the restaurant until March 2027. Breakfast remains listed separately. Smaller rooms have limited storage, Cabin rooms have no windows, and nearby nightlife can disturb sleep. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat or a stay dependent on the advertised facilities.

  • Best for: shopping and restaurant-focused city breaks; travelers spending most days out; visitors prioritizing a central location

  • Watch out for: ongoing renovation and closed facilities; late-night street noise; compact rooms; Cabin categories have no windows

  • Location: Opposite Humlegården beside lively Stureplan, with Östermalmstorg metro nearby.

  • Rooms: Renovated rooms draw praise; smaller categories have limited storage, and Cabin rooms are windowless.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive overall, though Tripadvisor includes some housekeeping lapses.

  • Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

  • Amenities: Breakfast remains listed; bar, restaurant, gym and sauna currently have renovation-related closures.

  • Fees and surprises: Paid public garage, cashless payments and weekday construction; confirm reopening dates before booking.
