#1 of 3 hotels in Djurgården & Skeppsholmen by Axel's take. Djurgården & Skeppsholmen is #6 of 8 places to stay in Stockholm. The best hotels in Djurgården & Skeppsholmen, ranked · Where to stay in Stockholm

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A characterful museum base with standout breakfast and genuinely helpful staff. a design-led 4-star boutique hotel on Djurgården, scored for what it is.

Backstage is a design-led 4-star boutique hotel sharing a building with ABBA The Museum, and it’s a strong pick for a culture-focused Stockholm break. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness, comfortable beds and particularly good breakfast. The music-and-theatre styling gives it personality without making it just an ABBA-fan address. Museums, waterfront walks and Cirkus are close, with trams outside and ferries nearby.

The main compromise is space: standard and superior rooms are 20 square metres, and some Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests find family setups tight. You’re also outside the downtown shopping and nightlife core, despite good transport connections. Check whether breakfast is included; parking costs extra. We’d choose it for museums and performances rather than a spacious family room or a doorstep downtown scene.

  • Best for: museum-focused couples; ABBA fans and concertgoers; travelers who prefer parkland to downtown bustle

  • Watch out for: compact standard rooms, especially for three; transport needed for downtown nightlife; breakfast inclusion and parking charges

  • Location: Excellent for Djurgården’s museums and venues; tram outside and ferry nearby, rather than a downtown address.

  • Rooms: Characterful design and well-reviewed beds; standard and superior rooms are 20 square metres.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent reviews, with strong cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

  • Amenities: Brasserie, bar, café, free Wi-Fi and a small fitness room; breakfast is a particular highlight.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast is not included in every booking; parking, pets and extra beds carry additional charges.
