#8 of 9 hotels in Östermalm by Axel's take. Östermalm is #4 of 8 places to stay in Stockholm. The best hotels in Östermalm, ranked · Where to stay in Stockholm

Axel's take: 7.9/10

A friendly neighborhood base with excellent breakfast, but choose your room carefully. a compact, renovated 4-star in quiet Östermalm, scored for what it is.

Best Western Hotel Karlaplan is a compact 4-star in a historic Östermalm building, better for a comfortable city break than a luxury escape. Best Western dates its renovation to February 2024, and recent Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, welcoming staff and generous included breakfast. We'd pick it for a quieter neighborhood stay with the metro nearby; the courtyard and complimentary lobby refreshments add appeal.

Room choice is the catch: smaller categories are genuinely tight, and some are windowless. Breakfast also gets crowded, despite strong praise for the food. A summer guest reported uncomfortable heat, while an August 2026 Tripadvisor review mentioned a broken elevator; confirm lift operation if stairs are difficult. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, substantial desk space or full-service four-star polish are priorities.

  • Best for: couples on short city breaks; solo travelers who value friendly service; visitors preferring a quieter neighborhood

  • Watch out for: small rooms and windowless categories; crowded breakfast room; confirm elevator operation if essential

  • Location: Quiet Östermalm setting, a short walk from Karlaplan metro rather than right in the tourist core.

  • Rooms: Renovated, functional rooms; check floor area and windows carefully before booking.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

  • Service: Warm, helpful reception staff are among the most consistently praised features.

  • Amenities: Included breakfast, courtyard, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym with cardio equipment and weights.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and hotel spaces have restricted weekday hours; an August 2026 guest reported the elevator out of order.
