Axel's take: 8.6/10
Comfortable rooms make this a strong casino stay, less so a sightseeing base. an upscale 4-star casino hotel on the Mississippi River, scored for what it is.
River City is an upscale 4-star casino hotel in Lemay, and we'd pick it for a comfortable gaming getaway rather than a downtown St. Louis vacation. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, generous showers and friendly staff. The hotel side earns particularly consistent feedback, making this a strong choice if you want dinner, gaming and a good night's sleep under one roof.
The trade-offs are practical: you'll want a car for exploring, and several guests on both sites report limited restaurant choices early in the week. There's a daily resort fee despite no pool, and the casino has smoking sections; smoke-sensitive travelers should weigh that carefully. We'd skip it for a family resort break or a walkable sightseeing trip, but it's well suited to casino weekends.
-
Best for: couples on a casino getaway; concert and event guests; travelers exploring by car
-
Watch out for: limited early-week dining; daily resort fee and no pool; smoking sections in the casino
-

-
Rooms: Guests consistently praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds and large showers; refrigerators and coffee makers are provided.
-
Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent Booking.com and Expedia reviews.
-
Service: Friendly, helpful staff draw repeated praise, with occasional check-in or reservation hiccups.
-
Amenities: Casino, restaurants, event entertainment and fitness center; free self-parking, but no pool.
