Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong harbour-side base with excellent staff, a worthwhile spa and practical trade-offs. an industrial-style 4-star near Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, scored for what it is.

Grandi is an industrial-style 4-star near Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, and a strong pick for sightseeing without staying on the busiest shopping streets. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and generous breakfast selection. The restaurant, bakery and spa give it more appeal than a straightforward city sleeping base; the hot tubs are a particular draw after excursions.

Expect roughly a 10–20-minute walk to downtown sights, depending on your destination. Some rooms are compact, several guests find the mattresses very firm, and certain layouts put the sink outside the bathroom. Nearby construction has affected stays, including reports in 2026; ask about current work and room placement. Breakfast and spa access depend on your booking, and there is no hotel parking. We'd skip it if doorstep shopping, soft beds or guaranteed daytime quiet are priorities.

• Best for: couples combining sightseeing and spa time; harbour excursions and whale-watching trips; travelers happy to explore on foot

• Watch out for: nearby construction; confirm current disruption; firm mattresses and variable room layouts; breakfast and spa not always included

• Location: Near harbour restaurants, museums and excursion pickups; downtown is approximately 10–20 minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and clean; sizes vary, with recurring mentions of firm beds and unusual bathroom layouts.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Consistently warm, helpful reception staff are one of the strongest reasons to book.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, bakery, two spa hot tubs and a small gym; the hotel requires advance spa booking and excludes under-12s.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and spa inclusions; gym access accompanies spa admission, parking is offsite, and construction status needs confirmation.
