#2 of 4 hotels in Old Harbour & Grandi by Axel's take. Old Harbour & Grandi is #3 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Old Harbour & Grandi, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong harbour-side base with standout staff, though rooms can feel dark. an industrial-style 4-star boutique hotel by Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, scored for what it is.

Exeter is an industrial-style 4-star boutique hotel by Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, and a strong pick for exploring on foot without sacrificing comfort. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and convenient tour pickups near bus stop 4. Deig bakery, Le Kock restaurant and the bar give downstairs genuine life; the sauna and gym add useful comforts after sightseeing.

The trade-off is the industrial look: rooms can feel dim, and entry-level rooms are compact rather than generous. Street noise crops up across reviews, particularly with windows open, and some guests report warm rooms without air-conditioning. Light sleepers should request a quieter room away from the street. Parking costs extra and spaces are limited; confirm breakfast inclusion when booking. We’d skip it if bright, spacious rooms and dependable silence matter more than location and atmosphere.

  • Best for: couples on a city break; travelers exploring without a car; fans of industrial design

  • Watch out for: dim lighting and compact entry-level rooms; street noise and warm rooms; limited paid parking

  • Location: Old Harbour setting, walkable to central sights and convenient for tour pickup at bus stop 4.

  • Rooms: Comfortable industrial-style rooms; Economy doubles are ground-floor and roughly 17 square metres.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest-review sites; Expedia lists housekeeping on request.

  • Service: Recent guests repeatedly praise friendly staff and practical help with trips and problems.

  • Amenities: Sauna, gym, Deig bakery, Le Kock restaurant and Tail bar.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is paid and limited; check breakfast inclusion and request housekeeping when needed.
