Axel's take: 7.6/10

Almar delivers the beach-party setting, but quiet luxury is a harder promise to keep. an adults-only, upscale LGBTQ beachfront party resort, scored for what it is.

Almar is an adults-only, upscale LGBTQ beachfront resort whose strongest draw is its social scene. We'd pick it for Los Muertos Beach, Mantamar's pool parties and easy access to Zona Romántica's bars and restaurants. Expedia and Booking.com guests praise spacious suites, cleanliness and friendly staff. The rooftop shows and guest-only Eden pool give you alternatives to the beach-club action.

The luxury promise is less consistent. Recent Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe vacation-club sales pressure, loud music and renovation disruption; August 2026 reports mention construction noise and paint fumes, acknowledged by management. Confirm whether that work is finished before booking. Expedia also lists a mandatory resort fee and deposit, so check exactly which beach-club seating and services are included. It's a good fit for a sociable beach break; we'd skip it for dependable peace and quiet.

  • Best for: LGBTQ travelers seeking a social beach stay; Pool-party and rooftop-show fans; Couples wanting spacious suites near nightlife

  • Watch out for: Loud Mantamar music; Recent renovation disruption; confirm completion; Vacation-club sales pressure and mandatory resort fee

  • Location: Los Muertos beachfront, within walking distance of Zona Romántica restaurants and gay nightlife.

  • Rooms: Spacious suites earn praise; book the view explicitly, as run-of-house rooms have no sea view.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength across Expedia and Booking.com ratings and guest comments.

  • Service: Friendly staff attract consistent praise, but repeated sales approaches undermine the upscale experience.

  • Amenities: Mantamar Beach Club, guest-only Eden pool, rooftop entertainment, spa and fitness facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: Mandatory resort fee and deposit; confirm seating inclusions and the status of recent renovation work.
