#4 of 5 hotels in Coco Beach & Punta Esmeralda by Axel's take. Coco Beach & Punta Esmeralda is #4 of 7 places to stay in Playa del Carmen. The best hotels in Coco Beach & Punta Esmeralda, ranked · Where to stay in Playa del Carmen

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A good-value base with a rooftop pool, but soundproofing and upkeep are uneven. A simple independent hotel with a rooftop pool, north of central Playa, scored for what it is.

Terrasse is a simple independent hotel, better approached as a budget-friendly base than a four-star escape. Its rooftop pool and terrace are the main draws, alongside a location away from Playa’s busiest nightlife. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise helpful staff and comfortable, clean rooms. We'd consider it for travelers who prefer neighborhood restaurants to a resort setting and don't mind walking into the center.

The quieter location doesn't guarantee quiet rooms: guests on Tripadvisor and Google describe intrusive corridor and neighboring-room noise. More recent feedback also flags uneven upkeep, although overall cleanliness ratings remain positive. A June 2026 Expedia guest reported breakfast at another hotel two blocks away, so confirm arrangements rather than assuming an on-site meal. We'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting polished service and consistently fresh rooms.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious couples; Independent travelers who enjoy walking; Rooftop-pool downtime

  • Watch out for: Thin walls and internal noise; Uneven room maintenance; Breakfast may be served off-site

  • Location: North of the busiest center, near Fifth Avenue; not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Comfortable basics, but noise insulation and maintenance draw mixed feedback.

  • Cleanliness: Positive overall ratings, with some guests reporting stained linens or worn finishes.

  • Service: Helpful staff are a consistent strength overall, despite some strongly negative accounts.

  • Amenities: Rooftop pool, terrace and free Wi-Fi are confirmed; don't expect full resort facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast location and shuttle arrangements; the official website currently provides little usable information.
