Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong pool-focused escape, but not the pick for beach lovers. An adults-only, five-star all-inclusive focused more on pools than polished luxury, scored for what it is.

Platinum Yucatan Princess is an adults-only, five-star all-inclusive north of Playa del Carmen, and we'd choose it for relaxed pool days rather than flawless luxury. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, clean grounds and swim-out rooms. Spacious suites, plentiful pools and a choice of restaurants make it a strong pick for couples who want most of their holiday organized on-site.

The beach is the biggest compromise: guests describe rocky access and seaweed that can make swimming unappealing. Food earns plenty of praise, but consistency varies, and recent Expedia guests report fewer specialty restaurants operating during quieter periods. Some rooms and shared areas show wear, with occasional dampness complaints. We'd skip it for a beach-first honeymoon or exacting luxury expectations; pool-focused travelers have a better fit.

• Best for: Couples who prefer pools to the beach; Adults wanting an easy all-inclusive break; Swim-out suite fans

• Watch out for: Rocky beach access and variable seaweed; Uneven room condition and occasional dampness; Reduced restaurant choice during quiet periods

• Location: Beachfront north of central Playa del Carmen; plan on transport for downtown outings.

• Rooms: Spacious suites and popular swim-outs, but condition is not uniformly five-star.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across guest ratings, despite occasional room-level complaints.

• Service: Friendly restaurant, bar and entertainment teams are the most consistent highlight.

• Amenities: Extensive pools, gym, sports facilities, entertainment and included 24-hour room service.

• Fees and surprises: Skylights dining and most spa services cost extra; dinner restaurants enforce a dress code.
