#6 of 9 hotels in Chalong by Axel's take. Chalong is #6 of 12 places to stay in Phuket. The best hotels in Chalong, ranked · Where to stay in Phuket

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A friendly, leafy budget stay, provided you can live with noise and inland Chalong. A rustic budget guesthouse with a pool in inland Chalong, scored for what it is.

Shanti Lodge is a rustic budget guesthouse, not a conventional three-star resort. Booking.com now lists it as OASIS by Four Twenty. We'd pick it for the tropical gardens, saltwater pool and sociable restaurant rather than polished rooms. Agoda and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, food and relaxed atmosphere; recent cleanliness feedback is mostly positive. The extensive vegetarian menu is another practical plus.

The catch is that leafy surroundings don't guarantee quiet. Recent guests describe creaking floors, audible neighbors and, in some rooms, traffic noise. Chalong's busy roads also make walking awkward, and beach days need transport. Room layouts vary, with shared bathrooms in some categories, so check exactly what you're booking. There's an on-site cannabis dispensary, too. It's good value for easygoing travelers; we'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone wanting a walk-to-the-beach holiday.

  • Best for: Budget travelers who like rustic character; Vegetarians; Sociable travelers with transport

  • Watch out for: Creaky floors, neighboring rooms and possible traffic noise; Busy-road location away from beaches; Some shared bathrooms; on-site cannabis dispensary

  • Location: Inland Chalong; arrange transport for beaches, and don't count on comfortable walking routes.

  • Rooms: Characterful but simple; layouts, bathrooms and kitchen facilities vary substantially by category.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback, including praise for clean rooms and the well-kept pool.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent strengths across review sites.

  • Amenities: Saltwater outdoor pool, restaurant with extensive vegetarian choices, massage and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and transfers cost extra; some rooms share bathrooms, and a cannabis dispensary operates on site.
