Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong Kamala beach base, provided you expect comfort rather than five-star polish. A relaxed, mid-range beach resort rather than a true five-star luxury hotel, scored for what it is.

Princess Kamala is best approached as a relaxed, mid-range resort, not the luxury hotel its five-star listing suggests. We'd pick it for easy beach days: Kamala’s sand is across the road, restaurants are close, and the gardens and pools give it a proper holiday feel. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms and friendly staff; pool-access rooms are a particular draw.

The trade-off is polish. Rooms can look older, some guests find the beds hard, and mosquitoes recur in reviews, including garden-villa stays. The gym is basic rather than a reason to book. It’s a good fit for couples and families prioritizing location and pool time; we'd skip it for contemporary luxury or a resort sitting directly on the sand.

• Best for: Couples wanting walkable beach holidays; Families prioritizing pool time; Travelers choosing location over luxury

• Watch out for: A road separates the hotel from the beach; Older-style rooms and some hard beds; Mosquitoes around garden accommodations

• Location: Central Kamala, across the road from the beach, with restaurants and shops nearby.

• Rooms: Spacious rooms, garden villas and pool-access options; décor and bed comfort are less consistent.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength: recent guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and well-kept pools.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn consistent praise, although individual service lapses occur.

• Amenities: Two outdoor pools, a children’s pool, swim-up bar and basic gym; breakfast generally receives good feedback.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a cash deposit and extra charges for breakfast and rollaway beds; the official pool-closure notice covered June 2–28, 2025, not current work.
