#5 of 9 hotels in Cape Panwa by Axel's take. Cape Panwa is #10 of 12 places to stay in Phuket. The best hotels in Cape Panwa, ranked · Where to stay in Phuket

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong choice for sea-view relaxation, with a less convincing beach and uneven dining. A five-star hillside wellness resort in quiet Cape Panwa, scored for what it is.

Amatara is a five-star hillside wellness resort in Cape Panwa, and we'd choose it for slowing down rather than exploring Phuket's nightlife. Spacious suites, pool villas and broad sea views are its strongest draws. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and warm staff, while recent Tripadvisor reviews reinforce the appeal of the spa, fitness facilities and main infinity pool. It's a strong pick for a restful, wellness-focused holiday.

The trade-offs matter at this level: several recent guests describe aging room details, and dining feedback is less consistent than the service praise. The small, rocky beach is tide-dependent, so think pool holiday rather than dependable sea swimming. Hills mean uphill walks or buggy rides. We'd skip it if you want nightlife nearby, easy step-free movement or uniformly polished luxury.

  • Best for: Couples seeking quiet sea views; Spa and wellness travelers; Pool-villa stays

  • Watch out for: Small, rocky beach with limited low-tide swimming; Hilly grounds and buggy dependence; Some aging rooms and uneven dining

  • Location: Quiet Cape Panwa setting; local restaurants are accessible, but busier areas require transport.

  • Rooms: Generous space and balconies; pool villas offer privacy, though some guests report dated details.

  • Cleanliness: Strong ratings across Booking.com and Expedia, supported by recent guest praise.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength; occasional housekeeping and dining lapses remain.

  • Amenities: Infinity pool, spa, gym, yoga and tennis make this more compelling for wellness than beach swimming.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists an incidental deposit, paid airport transfers and breakfast charges when not included.
