Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong downtown base with standout staff, but street noise limits the appeal. an upscale business hotel in Panama City's financial district, scored for what it is.

Renaissance Panama City is an upscale business hotel, not a beach resort or an ultra-luxury retreat. Reopened as a Renaissance in October 2024, the former Continental makes a strong base for exploring the city. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast earns plenty of approval, while the outdoor pool adds somewhere to unwind between outings. Nearby restaurants and Iglesia del Carmen metro make the location genuinely useful.

The main compromise is soundproofing: guests on Tripadvisor and Expedia describe traffic, motorcycles and passing party buses reaching rooms. We'd choose it for a comfortable city break or work trip, but light sleepers should look elsewhere. Check whether breakfast is included, and confirm airport transport directly: booking sites advertise transfers, while Marriott says the hotel provides no shuttle.

• Best for: business travelers; city explorers using the metro; couples wanting a central base

• Watch out for: street noise reaching rooms; breakfast may cost extra; conflicting airport-transfer information

• Location: Central financial-district setting near restaurants and Iglesia del Carmen metro; not beachfront.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally well-liked rooms, but outside noise is a recurring weakness.

• Cleanliness: Broadly strong feedback across Booking.com and Expedia, with frequent praise for housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest consistent strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, Lila restaurant, Jota's bar and an executive lounge for eligible guests.

• Fees and surprises: Marriott lists free on-site parking; breakfast and lounge access depend on the booking or eligibility.
