Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong Olympiapark base with standout breakfast, though not an old-town doorstep. a large, modern 4-star conference hotel near Olympiapark, scored for what it is.

Leonardo Royal is a large, modern 4-star conference hotel near Olympiapark, and a strong pick for events or business trips. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast spread, comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful staff. Oberwiesenfeld U-Bahn is a short walk away, making central Munich straightforward without staying in the thick of it. The restaurant, terrace, gym and sauna round out a dependable full-service package.

The trade-offs are practical rather than deal-breaking: some rooms feel compact for families, and glass bathroom doors draw complaints about privacy. Parking costs extra, cannot be reserved and has proved unavailable for some event-weekend guests. We'd choose it for Olympiapark access and reliable comfort; we'd skip it if walking straight into the old town or sharing with maximum bathroom privacy matters most.

• Best for: Olympiapark eventgoers; Business and conference travelers; Couples comfortable using the U-Bahn

• Watch out for: Limited privacy from glass bathroom doors; Some rooms compact for families; Paid parking with no guaranteed space

• Location: Convenient for Olympiapark and nearby U-Bahn connections; not a central old-town address.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and modern furnishings; room size varies, and bathroom privacy can disappoint.

• Cleanliness: Strong across Booking.com ratings and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guest accounts.

• Service: Recent feedback is predominantly friendly and helpful, with occasional lapses rather than a consistent problem.

• Amenities: Much-praised breakfast buffet, restaurant, bar, terrace, gym and sauna.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; garage parking and pets carry charges, and parking cannot be reserved.
