Axel's take: 8.0/10

A solid Munich base with good breakfast and transport links, rather than central charm. a practical 3-star chain hotel west of central Munich, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Hampton is a strong pick if you want a clean, comfortable base and don't mind taking public transport into central Munich. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and breakfast, while recent Tripadvisor reviews highlight comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. The nearby Donnersbergerbrücke station and tram stops make the location more convenient than its distance from the old town suggests. Included hot breakfast and a 24-hour gym round out a useful, no-frills package.

The trade-off is atmosphere: the surroundings are functional rather than picturesque, and some guests find the rooms small. Breakfast can get busy, and parking costs extra. We'd choose it for straightforward city breaks or work trips, but skip it if you want spacious rooms or Munich's historic sights immediately outside.

• Best for: city-break travelers happy using transit; business travelers; travelers prioritizing clean, practical comfort

• Watch out for: outside the historic center; some rooms feel compact; busy breakfast periods

• Location: Convenient for Donnersbergerbrücke and trams; practical surroundings rather than old-town charm.

• Rooms: Modern, comfortable rooms with tea and coffee facilities; some guests find them small.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Generally helpful and welcoming, with occasional less-positive reception reports.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour gym and lobby bar; casual dining also available next door.

• Fees and surprises: Covered parking and pets cost extra; Hilton lists a 15 kg pet limit and no airport shuttle.
