#9 of 9 hotels in Santa Lucía & Santa Ana by Axel's take. Santa Lucía & Santa Ana is #1 of 7 places to stay in Merida. The best hotels in Santa Lucía & Santa Ana, ranked · Where to stay in Merida

Axel's take: 6.6/10

A convenient downtown base, but tired rooms make it a compromise. An older budget hotel in Mérida’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Maya Yucatán is an older budget hotel whose strongest selling point is its historic-center location, near Santa Lucía and within walking distance of the cathedral. We'd consider it for a short, location-first stay rather than a comfortable retreat. The outdoor pool is a useful extra, and some recent Expedia guests praise cleanliness and helpful staff. Overall guest ratings are middling rather than disastrous.

The concern is consistency: Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews from 2025–2026 repeatedly describe deteriorating rooms, bathroom problems and unreliable air conditioning; cleanliness also draws conflicting reports. Booking.com’s weak Wi-Fi score makes this a poor bet for remote work. Free parking is advertised, but spaces are limited and guests report paying elsewhere. An April 2026 guest also reported no operating restaurant, despite listings advertising one. We'd skip it if dependable room condition and working facilities matter more than location.

Best for: Budget travelers prioritizing downtown sights; Short stays with modest expectations
Watch out for: Recurring room-maintenance and air-conditioning complaints; Inconsistent cleanliness and weak Wi-Fi; Limited parking and uncertain restaurant operation
Location: Walkable historic-center setting near Santa Lucía, the theater and cathedral.
Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; recent guests repeatedly report worn finishes and bathroom defects.
Cleanliness: Mixed: some guests praise it, while others describe dirty bathrooms, stained linens and dampness.
Service: Helpful staff receive praise, but complaint handling and check-in experiences vary.
Amenities: Outdoor pool and gym advertised; confirm restaurant operation after an April 2026 report that it was unavailable.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; advertised free parking has limited capacity, with paid alternatives sometimes necessary.
