Axel's take: 6.9/10
Handy for bus travelers, but tired rooms make this a short-stay choice. A no-frills 3-star opposite Mérida’s ADO bus terminal, scored for what it is.
El Español is a no-frills 3-star whose strongest selling point is convenience: the ADO terminal is opposite, and Plaza Grande is roughly a 15-minute walk away. It’s a reasonable budget stopover rather than somewhere to linger. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, while an outdoor pool and free parking add useful extras.
The weakness is upkeep. Recent reviews across both sites describe plumbing problems, unreliable hot water and noisy or ineffective air-conditioning; some also mention hard beds and street noise. These aren’t universal experiences, but they make room quality less dependable than it should be. There’s no elevator, either. We’d consider it for a brief bus-based visit, but skip it if quiet sleep, reliable showers or step-free access matter most.
