Axel's take: 7.5/10

Comfortable villas and ocean views appeal, but ongoing construction compromises the escape. an upscale beachfront vacation-ownership resort with apartment-style villas, scored for what it is.

This upscale beachfront vacation-ownership resort makes most sense for families who want apartment-style comforts rather than a conventional hotel room. Kitchens or kitchenettes, in-room laundry and furnished balconies make longer stays practical. Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, ocean views and friendly staff, especially the activities team. We'd consider it for a pool-centered family break, but not an uncomplicated beach escape.

The biggest drawback is current construction: Marriott lists resort renovations through November 30, 2026, and Coralline restaurant closed through February 28, 2027. Tripadvisor and booking-site guests describe disruptive construction noise, sometimes around the pools. The beach is for lounging rather than swimming, and the sprawling, multilevel grounds make getting around a chore for some guests. We'd skip it if quiet, easy ocean swimming or walking to restaurants matters most.

  • Best for: families wanting kitchen facilities; longer, pool-centered stays; travelers prioritizing ocean views

  • Watch out for: ongoing construction and Coralline closure; beach unsuitable for swimming; sprawling grounds and transport-dependent location

  • Location: Beachfront on the tourist corridor; expect rides rather than walks to town and outside restaurants.

  • Rooms: Apartment-style studios and villas have kitchens or kitchenettes, laundry and balconies; confirm the exact view category.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in guest feedback, including recent Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Friendly staff and activities teams draw praise; some guests report pushy vacation-ownership sales pitches.

  • Amenities: Multiple pools, Spa Otomí, a gym, tennis and a kids club; Coralline is temporarily closed.

  • Fees and surprises: Marriott advertises no resort fee and free Wi-Fi; valet parking costs extra, and checkout is at 10 a.m.
