Axel's take: 6.5/10

A handy downtown address, but maintenance makes this a cautious budget pick. A basic budget hotel in downtown Cabo, near the marina, scored for what it is.

Dos Mares is a basic budget hotel, not a resort: its strongest selling point is being able to walk to the marina, restaurants and nightlife. We'd consider it for a short, spend-mostly-outside stay. Booking.com guests rate location and staff above facilities, while recent Expedia guests include praise for comfortable mattresses and helpful reception.

The trade-off is inconsistent upkeep, not simply dated decoration. Reviews from summer 2026 across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com describe dirty pool water, bathroom problems, broken doors or inadequately cleaned floors, although other guests report clean, satisfactory rooms. Several also say the photos flatter the condition. We'd skip it if reliable room maintenance or swimming is central to your trip; confirm the pool's condition and check your room's door and bathroom on arrival.

• Best for: Budget travelers prioritizing downtown access; Short stays near the marina

• Watch out for: Uneven cleaning and room maintenance; Repeated dirty-pool complaints; Photos may flatter current conditions

• Location: Central, walkable access to the marina, dining and nightlife; not beachfront.

• Rooms: OYO lists air-conditioning and private bathrooms; guests report uneven condition, including door and plumbing faults.

• Cleanliness: Mixed: some recent guests praise clean rooms, while others flag floors, bathrooms and pool water.

• Service: Helpful reception is a recurring strength, though problem resolution receives less consistent praise.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, Wi-Fi and parking are listed; pool upkeep is a recurring concern.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists breakfast and airport transfers as extra; confirm availability, as a guest reported no shuttle service.
