Axel's take: 7.9/10

Good beachfront value and friendly service, provided you can accept the aging rooms. a simple 3-star beachfront resort in San José del Cabo, scored for what it is.

Posada Real is a simple 3-star beachfront resort in San José del Cabo, and a good-value pick if you prefer a smaller, relaxed property to a sprawling resort. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, clean rooms and seaside setting. The hotel lists a heated pool, children's pool, two restaurants and two bars; its cactus gardens add character without pretending this is luxury.

The main compromise is age: guests across several sites describe dated rooms and facilities that need attention. Food gets both enthusiastic praise and complaints about limited variety, so don't choose it for elaborate dining. Crucially, the beach is for walks and views, not swimming—the hotel itself warns of strong currents. We'd pick it for uncomplicated pool-and-beach downtime, but skip it for modern rooms or ocean swimming.

• Best for: value-minded couples; travelers who prefer smaller resorts; relaxed pool-and-beach breaks

• Watch out for: Beach unsafe for swimming; Dated rooms and maintenance wear; Mixed feedback on buffet variety

• Location: Beachfront in San José del Cabo's hotel zone, rather than its historic center.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi; updating is a recurring guest request.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across guest reviews, despite the property's age.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent positives.

• Amenities: Heated pool, children's pool, hot tub, two restaurants and two bars; no elevator.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; confirm meal-plan inclusions and the city tourism charge collected at the property.
