Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong poolside escape with Mexican character, but not a beach-swimming destination. an upscale, hacienda-style beachfront all-inclusive resort, scored for what it is.

Hacienda del Mar is an upscale, hacienda-style all-inclusive in Cabo del Sol, and we'd shortlist it for a relaxed, mostly on-property vacation. Its tiled courtyards, gardens and ocean-facing pools give it more character than a generic resort. Following its July 2025 all-inclusive conversion, recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and food. Spacious rooms and a well-reviewed kids' club strengthen its appeal for families.

The biggest limitation is the beach: dangerous currents make this a place for ocean views rather than swimming. You'll also need transport for downtown Cabo. Service can become patchy, and busy-period reviews mention competition for pool loungers. Timeshare sales approaches are another recurring irritation. Marriott explicitly lists a surcharge at De Cortez, so don't assume every dining experience is included. We'd skip it for walkable nightlife or a swim-from-the-sand holiday.

• Best for: families wanting pools and a kids' club; couples seeking a relaxed all-inclusive; travelers who enjoy traditional Mexican architecture

• Watch out for: beach unsuitable for swimming; timeshare pitches and dining supplements; pool-lounger competition during busy periods

• Location: Beachfront in Cabo del Sol; downtown Cabo requires a drive.

• Rooms: Spacious, traditional-style accommodation; balconies and ocean-facing categories are highlights.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Warm staff earn frequent praise, though some guests report slow or missed service.

• Amenities: Multiple pools, a children's splash area, kids' club, gym and Cactus Spa.

• Fees and surprises: De Cortez carries a dining surcharge; spa treatments and rented cabanas cost extra; parking is complimentary.
